Title: NO CA FOUND & service port seems to be unusable

Hello,

I've a DM800SE clone (Sunray SR4) with SIM 2.10

I've installed a new Dream-elite image, configured and wanted to make a backup (a .nfi file). I guess I installed wrong plugin because as I remember that opkg installed other packages too which were named to *mtd*. And the box doesn't boot anymore.

After switching on the message "NO CA or image, 2nd failed!" pops up and finally stuck with the message "BIOS NO CA FOUND" with few seconds later. No change even if I press mini-flashup button during poweron.

The SIM card and the SIM connector was cleaned.

I started to search the net for the problem and I've found a lot of solved solutions with DreamUp, Sunray-Flashup, Dreambox Optiflasher (v1.0.6 and v2.0.0.6) and NCF Repair Tools. I installed all the above softwares but I stuck in the beginning: the softwares didn't detect the box (I turned the box on when the SW requested). So the serial "dreamup" protocol seems not to work for me.

I fall back to build virtual console to catch the boot messages, maybe it has some useful info. The hyperterminal failed (just displayed garbage when I turned on the box). I tried out not only the 115200 8N1 as COM-port setup but other baud rates too: no success.

I returned to Linux and started the minicom. It also displayed just garbage. What was strange here that the same garbage was displayed at baud rate 9600 and 115200. ???

I tried out 2 different USB cables, used other USB ports. I tried at an other PC too, here the Hyperterminal was running in a virtual XP (Virtualbox). The similar garbage apperaed as in the native XP. I think I can exclude the HW problem of the PC and USB cable.

I've read enough articles to think that my chance to get my box back is not too high. Finally I removed the SIM card to see what happens. The box behaved the same.

I couldn't find too much detailed info how the boot process is going on and how the SIM is involved in it (if it's involved at all).

So I would like to ask the experts what can I do here?
- is it possible to fix the service connection anyhow?
- is it worth to buy a new SIM? Has a chance that it's wrong?
- is it safe to get out a SIM from an other box and make a try? I mean under the safe that the "replace-SIM" cannot be destroyed?
- using a recovery compact flash image,
- booting with TFTP (is it possible without accessing the service port?)
- other

or simple buy a new box?

Thanks in advance

Important point (Virtualbox) not help ...
You need to install XP on driver to get a port work ..

1-no ca found easy problem you can fix it just by flash correct bootloader ..
2-you can not fix it with lan cable only must be both cable to gather (mini usb + lan)
3-Yes you can buy new sim if the sim corrupted if you get (Dream Multimedia error !) message but in this case you can not replace new sim (must be firse to fix No Ca Found then you can flash new image for new sim and change it)
4-Yes yuo can take sim out and put it in other box (same type not different) and fix sim then return it back to you box

no need to buy new sim or new box if your box work fine just (no ca found) error, But if your box have some hardware issue as like broken usb port or lan then in this case as you like (Fix it or buy new)

Hi Fairbird,

Thanks for the quick response. Reading your answer it's probably not a SIM issue. Do I think correctly that my problem is that the SSL cannot be loaded?

If yes then I've to focus to flash anyhow or to boot anyhow. This is the first time when I would need the service port but it looks like to be broken. So I think I cannot flash a new SSL directly. But what about to boot from the secondary source?

I've found articles how to boot the dm800se from USB stick and from net. These articles contained pictures about the BIOS of DM800se which has primary and secondary boot source. The question is what is the default value for secondary boot source. Maybe it's set to a value and I can boot the box using this way. What do you think about the idea?

I'm lack of information. Maybe you know the answers to my questions too.
1. What program does the flashing normally? (I mean when pressing the mini-flashup button during poweron.) The BIOS or the loaded SSL?
2. About the BIOS access, the articles says that I've to start the box as I would flash a new image and telnet to the box to get into the box's BIOS. What program provides this access? If the BIOS then it would work for me too but it doesn't work. So I think the SSL does. Right?

Thanks

After reading a lot of topics I know that it would be important to have a good connection over miniusb cable but I simple don't have connection over usb. I've installed the drivers from dream-multimedia (CP210x_VCP_Win_XP_S2K3_Vista_7.zip), the device seems to be ok according the XP. I start the optiflasher program and press do the job button. The program says "Power on DB device". I turn it on but nothing happens, no device detected, no "SERIAL mode" text on the LED screen, nothing. It just waits.

I read the topics you mentioned but in all topics the optiflasher program is able to connect to the box. I've installed the proper driver (I think) and set the COM-port to 115200 8N1 and I don't see what else can I do for building the connection. Maybe I miss something here... I hope I do.

I cannot communicate with box over USB. I believe that it should work (as it works for almost everybody) but it doesn't work for me. Believe me that I'm not happy that I can't take the easy way. It looks like that beside the "NO CA FOUND" problem I has an extra issue with the usb port what I cannot solve.
This is the reason why I'm asking my questions.

The video shows how can I flash a new image using the "stop-mode". I used this way to flash new images until it worked. Now I'm not able to reach the stop-mode: I never see an IP address on the screen, only the NO CA FOUND message.

I've connected the PC and the box with cross-cable. I configured the eth interface manually as it was written. If the cross cable was connected to the dreambox then no peer was detected by the windows:
$ ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

If I put the other end of the cable into my laptop then the IP config was ok:
$ ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

I've connected the cable back to the dreambox.

I followed the steps written in the thread 1136. I did these steps more times during the weekend but now I did screenshots as well. When I start the Optiflash program it gives an access violation message but after it the program starts. When I press the button do-job, a message is printed "Power on DB device", I power the dreambox and nothing happens. How can I attach the screenshots to the posts? Shall I send them in PM?

Bootlogs, here is. It's not a joke. I already wrote that hyperterminal displays garbage only. The info is printed not in one big step but in bursts. So according the timings of the bursts it looks like a real log. I played a lot with the hyperterminals emulation settings (ANSI, VT100, VT52) but garbage only. The garbage looked a little bit different but was garbage.

I think you have hard ware issue (Not sure)
If hyperterminals doesn't work then hard ware fault ...
You need a technical person ....

I think the same. My only hope is the secondary boot source (if it's allowed at all). Do you know somebody who can give some info about the boot process (see my questions some posts above). I would like to know if this hope is realistic at all.
